Step-By-Step Guide

How to Install Your Mailbox Flag

Step 1

If you are using this particular type of flag mount, you will need to take out the small peg from inside the mailbox. This will allow you to take off the old flag and use the hardware for the new flag.

Step 2

Once you have gotten rid of the cheap flimsy flag, replace the hardware in reverse order that you took the other flag out. There is typically a red plastic, piece and a O-ring the come with the hardware. When you are putting it back together, it should look like the picture.

Alternative Instructions

If your mailbox didn't come with the hardware, here is a different way you can install your mail flag.

Materials

  • 1 Qty: 1/4-20x3/4" Pan Head Bolt (Hillman #35215)
  • 1 Qty: 1/4-20 Nylon locking nut (Hillman #883182)
  • 1 Qty: 1/4"ID 1/2"OD Nylon Washer (Hillman #881545
  • 2 Qty: .343x.885x.062 Nylon Washer (Hillman #884555)
  • 1/4" Drill bit (If there isn't already a hole)
  • 7/16" wrench
  • Phillips head screw driver

Steps

  1. Drill a 1/4" hole where you want the flag to be (if there is already a hole, we recommend using that one)
  2. Grab your pan head washer, the smaller washer, and one of the larger washers. Put the bigger washer on the bolt first and then the smaller washer on after that.
  3. Place bolt on the flags mounting hole (the smaller washer should fit into the hole). Then put the larger washer on the other side of the flag.
  4. Put the screw through the hole you drilled earlier then secure it with the nut.

Optional- Use another bolt and washer to make a mailbox stop if your flag keeps falling downwards. (example on image)
