My post cap doesn't fit my post. Did I order the wrong size?
My post cap doesn't fit my post. Did I order the wrong size?
Maybe.
Often times your post is just a little swollen due to water. Just let your post dry out and your cap should fit.
Other times, you may have bought a nominal sized cap for a true sized post. (Nominal sized post are typically a half inch smaller than a true sized post) If the measurement of your post is true sized, you will need a true sized post cap.

Signs
Can I get a mock-up of a personalized sign made before I order?
Can I get a mock-up of a personalized sign made before I order?
The short answer is no. Constant back-and-forth emails for every proof would add a significant cost that we’d eventually have to pass on to our customers, and we want to keep our prices as fair as possible.
But we can still make it happen! If you would like to see a mock-up of your personalized sign before we fire up the shop tools, simply put that request in the "Order Notes" during checkout. We’ll be happy to send one over to make sure it’s exactly what you’re looking for before we start manufacturing.

Can I get a mock-up of a custom sign made before I order?
Can I get a mock-up of a custom sign made before I order?
The short answer is no. As a small "made-to-order" shop, it takes a significant amount of time to create, edit, and finalize custom designs. This process often involves hours—or even days—of design work before we even begin manufacturing in the shop.
For this reason, we prefer to work with you on your ideas before we provide a formal quote. This allows us to give you a much better estimate of the design time involved for your specific piece.

Other Common Questions
Where are your products made?
Where are your products made?
All of our products are made and shipped from our shop in Madison, Indiana.
Will my metal items rust?
Will my metal items rust?
The short answer is that while our items are made of high-quality steel, all metal can rust if left unprotected. However, we take extra steps to ensure your pieces stay beautiful for years to come.
Our Premium Standard Protection
We powder coat all of our items to provide a durable, long-lasting finish. For our premium fence panels, metal posts, privacy screens, and gates, we’ve taken protection to the next level—a zinc powder coat undercoating comes standard on these items to provide the ultimate level of rust resistance.
Zinc Primer Upgrades for Post Caps
We know that post caps are often the most exposed part of a fence or deck. To provide extra peace of mind, many of our post cap selections include an option to add a zinc primer upgrade. This adds a powerful layer of corrosion resistance underneath the final color coat, specifically designed to withstand the elements.
Coastal & High-Moisture Areas
If you live in a coastal area, salt air is particularly aggressive toward metal. For these environments, we highly recommend selecting the zinc primer upgrade for any item where it isn’t already standard. Because every environment is unique, we cannot warranty against rust, so this extra layer is your best defense.
Pro-Active Maintenance
To keep your investment in top shape, we recommend:
- Regular Coating: Periodically applying a polyurethane or clear protective agent helps seal the finish against moisture.
- Quick Repairs: If an item gets scratched during installation, coat the area quickly with touch-up paint or urethane to prevent rust from taking hold in the exposed steel.
We are committed to providing the highest quality products for our Madison Iron and Wood family, and we appreciate you trusting our small veteran-owned business!
